  • iPhone 7 touch stops working when installed into frame

    Hey guys,

I have a weird one here. I have an iPhone 7 which was dropped and the screen was shattered pretty good (tile floor). The user also mentioned their rear camera stopped working months ago also which is a different issue. I swapped the screen with no problem and tested it worked which it did fine.

I installed the screen and screwed it all up and now the touch doesnt work. I removed the screen and now touch is working again. It just seems like when the screen is installed it stops, and when I really watch I can see ghost touching happening on the screen like something is glitching. I checked the framd of the phone and its not bent or anything, nothing in the way of the screen. I am not sure if this is a board problem or if i need to see if i need to get another frame/housing for this phone.

At first my initial guess was the audio ic problem, but then noticed its only stopping when its installed into the frame. I am not even sure what would cause this. Has anyone seen this before?

FYI, I ended up replacing the rear camera with a new one and it works now so I was able to rule out anything else.

    Thanks!

Have you tried another screen other than that one ?. Iv seen this issue before but was always a bad screen or bad batch of screens from a certain supplier at the time.

I was just thinking that. I might have a spare one to test tomorrow from a spare phone I will see. Its just weird that it works fine loose. Haven't seen that before!

So, turns out it was the screen. Swapped in another one and it seems to be fine. Makes no sense but its fixed. Thanks!!

The touch ics are on the flex on the 7, so if they are badly soldered it's possible to stop it working when fitted in the phone. Rule number one, always try known good parts first
